Says Here...

...that the new Pope has ROCKED THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, according to George Weigel at NationalReview.com.  It seems Francis is "radically Christ-centered."

Um, I'm not Catholic or anything, but if the church wasn't Christ-centered before, what WAS it centered on, exactly?

Puzzling Inscription Etched Into His Gun...

Before Aaron Alexis opened fire at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday, he scratched this onto his shotgun:

"better this way" and "my ELF weapon."

ELF weapon?

Was he out gunning for mythological creatures?  Was the gun a gift from the elves?  Or was he a member of the Erisian Liberation Front?  We may never know.

And Just Another Quick Thought From Saki...

THE CHRONICLES OF CLOVIS

It's so hard to APPROACH, let alone CRITICISE, The Holy of Holies, I mean The Chronicles Of Clovis  by Saki.

SO I'LL KEEP THIS SIMPLE.

All people everywhere NEED TO READ THIS collection of Saki's short stories, but ALL students of Chaos especially.  Clovis -- and his rawther mysterious sidekick, the Aunt of Clovis -- are spellbindingly wonderful agents of Chaos, not only for Edwardian times but for ALL time.  THEY MAKE IT LOOK SO EASY, it's enough to bring tears to your eyes.  Clovis, or the Aunt of Clovis -- jointly and severally, as they say in legalese -- just saunter into any situation, eyeball it casually and with evident pleasure, and proceed to ROCK THE JOINT, rolling the metaphoric Apples of Chaos where they are bound to do the most good.

Sometimes they actually don't NEED to, and they sit back and enjoy it while someone ELSE rocks the joint, as in the delightful "Tobermory."

When the JOB IS DONE, they RIDE OFF INTO THE SUNSET like the Lone Ranger and Tonto, leaving the scene in utter disarray, all parties (except Clovis and his aunt) gasping like so many Goldfish after the bowl is kicked over.

There are more than a few editions of this Discordian classic.  Pick any one.  Open the covers, sip slowly...and enjoy.
